Law firm specializing in plaintiff s employment law is seeking a Head of Human Resources to lead and scale their people operations. Law firm is headquartered in Westchester County with established practices in New York City and the greater tristate area. This is a senior, hands-on role for an HR leader who enjoys building structure, supporting leadership, and creating systems that help a fast-paced organization thrive. The Head of HR will work closely with the COO and firm leadership to oversee all HR functions and serve as a trusted partner to attorneys and staff across the firm. This position is responsible for managing the full employee lifecycle while helping professionalize and streamline HR processes as the firm continues to grow. The ideal candidate is practical, discreet, organized, and comfortable operating independently with high accountability. This position has a hybrid remote schedule, with 4 days in office and 1 day from home. Salary depends on experience. Responsibilities:
Direct all HR operations including onboarding, offboarding, employee relations, and performance management
Serve as a strategic partner to the COO on HR planning, policies, and organizational needs
Oversee recruiting and hiring processes for attorneys and staff
Manage benefits administration, payroll coordination, and HRIS platforms
Maintain employee handbook, policies, and internal HR procedures
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations
Handle sensitive employee matters with professionalism and discretion
Track PTO, leaves of absence, and performance review cycles
Support firm culture, internal communications, and employee engagement initiatives
Collaborate with operations and finance on compensation, bonuses, and headcount planning
