Job Description

A manufacturer of components and devices for military use is looking to hire a Shipping & Receiving Lead. This role is responsible for leading and executing all shipping, receiving, inventory management, and logistics coordination activities in support of manufacturing operations. This is a hands-on leadership positions responsible for ensuring accuracy, compliance, timeliness, and continuous improvement of all inbound and outbound material processes. This role owns daily execution within the ERP system, ensure compliance with domestic and international shipping regulations, supports inventory accuracy, and provides leadership, training, and direction to shipping and receiving personnel. Responsibilities:
Leadership & Coordination
- Lead, direct, and work alongside shipping and receiving personnel to ensure daily operational goals are met.
- Establish daily priorities aligned with production schedules and customer requirements.
- Train and mentor team members on procedures, ERP usage, safety standards, and compliance requirements.
- Promote a culture of accountability, safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate cross-functionally with Purchasing, Production, Quality, Engineering, and Customer Service.
Shipping Operations
- Plan and execute outbound shipments to meet customer delivery requirements.
- Utilize ERP shipping modules to generate documentation, packing slips, bills of lading, labels, and tracking.
- Select appropriate shipping methods based on cost, urgency, customer specifications, and compliance requirements.
- Arrange carrier pickups and maintain carrier relationships.
- Verify weights, shipment charges, and freight classifications.
- Maintain accurate shipping records and tracking documentation.
- Trace and resolve shipment delays, damages, or losses.
Receiving & Inventory Control
- Oversee and participate in receipt of incoming materials, verifying quantities and documentation.
- Ensure proper inspection documentation and coordination with Quality when required.
- Determine appropriate storage locations and maintain organized inventory layout.
- Support inventory accuracy through proper transactions, cycle count support, and ERP updates.
- Record and report damaged or non-conforming materials in accordance with company procedures.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with domestic and international shipping regulations.
- Prepare and verify export documentation, customs paperwork, and required certifications.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 and/or AS 9100 quality standards.
- Ensure all shipments meet customer-specific labeling and documentation requirements.
Material Handling
- Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently.
- Operate forklifts and material handling equipment in accordance with safety standards.
- Lift and move materials up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Assemble or select appropriate packaging materials (wood crates, cartons, protective materials).
Process Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
- Monitor key shipping and receiving metrics (accuracy, on-time shipments, freight costs).
- Recommend improvements to workflow, layout, and documentation processes.
Additional Duties
- Perform hands-on shipping and receiving tasks as required.
- Support special projects and additional operational responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma required; Associate degree or higher preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of shipping and receiving experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Prior experience in a lead or supervisory role preferred.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong working knowledge of ERP systems (shipping and inventory modules required).
- Knowledge of domestic and international shipping regulations and documentation.
- Understanding of customs requirements and export compliance.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or AS 9100 standards preferred.
